Tim Burton Says No To 3D Shadows

In an interview with The Wrap to promote his art exhibition at LACMA, director Tim Burton has spoken about the Dark Shadows feature film for the first time since filming began, confirming that it is not being produced in 3D: "I have no plans for [it]. I loved doing Alice in Wonderland in 3D. I think people should have a choice. I don't think it should be forced on anybody."

Burton also spoke about the initial shooting for Dark Shadows, revealing: "It's been hard to kind of come here [to Los Angeles] because I'm just starting, and it's a weird tone and it's a lot of actors and, you know, we're not starting with the simple stuff... we're sort of getting right in there. You like to kind of sneak up on it a little bit, but this one we just kind of slammed right into it."

Capturing the soap opera atmosphere of the original episodes is something the film is actively trying to recreate. "That's part of what the vibe of the show is, and there's something about it that we want to get... it's early days. I'm very intrigued by the tone. It's a real ethereal tone we're trying to go for and I don't know yet." To read the full interview, click here.

IMDB has reported more crew appointments for the movie. Des Whelan is Dark Shadows' camera operator, with his previous work including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Tudors and The Wolfman. Michael Byrne is the film's assistant make-up artist, with his other work including the forthcoming Wuthering Heights and Wrath of the Titans. Simon Priestman is visual effects camera operator, having worked on Angels & Demons and the television series Helicopter Heroes. And finally, Leah Gallo is the unit's stills photographer, having previously photographed Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Sweeney Todd.
