LACMA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, is to host a special event celebrating the films of director Tim Burton on Friday October 21. The museum is currently hosting a major exhibition of Tim Burton's artwork.Bringing Burton's World to Life will feature a panel discussion with key Tim Burton collaborators composer Danny Elfman, production designer Rick Heinrichs and costume designer Colleen Atwood, all of whom have been working on the new Dark Shadows feature film. Danny Elfman was recently interviewed by the MTV Movie Blog, where he said how work on the music score for Dark Shadows was progressing: "I just sent them some stuff so they can play with it while they're editing." Discussing his approach for the project, he revealed: "I think we might keep it [the orchestra] small. Tim's first thought was to make it very small, but having said that, maybe we'll make it big. I think this will be a little wilder than Edward Scissorhands, but... I really don't know what to expect until it's done."

It's amazing that the music is still a work in progress. It will be interesting to see which approach is taken, small string section vs. larger orchestra. I'd prefer the former.
There's been talk of incorporating some of the musical genius of Robert Cobert into the score, I would so enjoy that. Cobert's haunting and chilling melodies were a major thread in the tapestry of Dark Shadows and could cause the hair on your arm to stand up.
In my own song about Barnabas I had a few bars of tribute to one of Cobert's more famous DS melodies, albeit with a more Pink Floyd-like pronunciation. It will be a real treat to see what comes forth from the music side of all of this.....
